The Director of The KARIKA Day Care Centre for senior citizens, Dr Mwega, has encouraged Alpha Kenya to work in partnership with KARIKA to foster spiritual development and bring a smile to the faces of some of the old people who often feel forgotten by the community. Each one of these ladies has a story to tell about how Jesus, through Alpha, has impacted their lives.
Towards the end of 2008, the Alpha office started running Alpha with about forty women and a couple of men. Every Wednesday from 10 am the Alpha team would be in Kawangware to run the course. Despite the initial language barrier, it still became interesting as their hearts were yearning for God and a change of lifestyle. The word of God worked in their hearts as it was spoken in simplicity and at the level of their understanding.
The Holy Spirit day was even more powerful as God ministered to these senior citizens with a lot of love, healing their deep wounds and giving them rest through Christ. The tears of spiritual healing flowed freely and as many shared their life experiences, hearts of stone melted and this marked the beginning of a great transformation.
As we ran Alpha this year, more changes have been noted. Guests changed the manner in which they spoke from aggressive to pleasant.
Dr. Mwega-Director of KARIKA says, “I have seen lives being transformed through Alpha.”
The Director desires that Alpha be run every year until the healing is total and complete. The Alpha office managed to secure bibles from the Bible Society of Kenya in Swahili and they have been of great help to this group.
